CALIFORNIA COUGARS SOCCER is dedicated to (1) the individual and team development of soccer excellence in its players and (2) the development of good sportsmanship and fair play in its players, parents, and supporters.

The Cougars have earned their reputation in the local soccer community and in the nation basing their foundation on consistently developing and producing attractive attacking players, effective efficient defensive players, and highly competitive winning teams.  No matter where Cougars play, the players receive compliments and recognition on their wonderful style of soccer play.

The objective of our program is to provide training and a playing environment for total soccer development of the individual player within the team concept.  In addition, coaches and trainers focus on the task of assisting the parent or guardian of the player in developing the leadership tools necessary for the player to enhance opportunity for success in later life.

Championship athletes in our program are always finding a way to get better - - -physically, technically, tactically, and psychologically.  The coaches and trainers strive to create the best possible learning and competitive environment for the participating player.

Five mental and emotional characteristics common to our championship athletes and to all championship athletes wherever include:

1.  Competitiveness

2.  Confidence (Self)

3.  Composure under pressure, including:  Can you as an athlete keep it together under pressure at crunch time?  Can you deal well with mistakes?

4.  Focus

5.  Child's play:  Have fun.

Director of Coaching Matt Kusanovich and his late father, Mark Kusanovich,  have established a long-term standard of soccer excellence that incorporates these championship characteristics.  It is evident on the soccer field and in the educational setting.  Combine these characteristics with tradition, soccer success, and established player development and the CALIFORNIA COUGARS player has the opportunity to be the best they can be.
